Radon Measurement & Reporting

The Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999 applies where workers are exposed to radon concentrations of more than 400 Bq/m3.  Where this is the case, employers are required to take action that includes:

  • Undertaking risk assessments
  • Implementing remedial measures
  • Undertaking routine monitoring to keep conditions under review
  • Undertaking routine examination of any engineered measures used to manage radon (ventilation systems etc)
  • Writing local rules
  • Giving training to workers

The experience of our dedicated team of monitoring technicians allows us to assess site conditions and select optimum locations for detector placement, and to record details relevant to radon concentrations and exposure of workers.

Our measurement service is supported by associated services including:

  • Implementation planning for Radon Assessment Programmes, prioritised on risk factors such as geographical, occupancy, underground assets and other risk factors which affect water utilities
  • Recording of related parameters (e.g. ground water blend during measurement period).

PC Engineering Services provide a comprehensive radon measurement service.  By partnering with one of the leading suppliers of radon detectors and combing this with decades of experience in the water industry, we are able to deliver cost effective service with high data quality.

By working closely with managers with responsibilities for health & safety, client RPA’s and RPSs, PC Engineering Services delivers effective support for:

  •  Initial site assessments, whether these are for single sites or as part of a larger radon assessment programme.
  • On-going monitoring of radon concentrations in areas that have been designated under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999.
